My Favorite Toffee/Candy

Few months ago, these new customers came into my shop... husband-wife and their approximately 4-5 year old son. Since it was their first visit to my shop, the husband-wife were busy checking out the stuff available in my store, while their very well-mannered son sat quietly on one of the stools and placed his four toffees on the table in front of him.

When the parents were done, they started to leave. The little boy got down from the stool and started to leave with them, his toffees forgotten on the table!

I immediately rushed out and called him back to give him his toffees. He was apparently so filled with gratitude that he gave one of his four toffees to me!

Have you ever experienced such moments when you know that not accepting a gift would completely break the giver's heart? This was one of those moments for me. I didn't want to take a little boy's candy from him. At the same time, I could not break his heart by NOT accepting his gift! So I offered him a toffee from MY "candy box" in exchange.

What? Don't you know about this? All shop-owners in India have "candy-boxes". The toffees in these "candy-boxes" are given as change in place of one rupee coins. Yes, in my shop too. For those times when we run out of one rupee coins! :P

So anyway, this was the first time I tasted this toffee - "Pulse". It's actually quite addictive if you like the tangy flavor of raw mango, with the masala twist! Reminds you of Aam Panna, or Mango Mint Cooler - the favorite Indian summer drink. (You can check out the link for my recipe for that drink.)

As you can guess by now, this particular candy - "Pulse" - has become my current favorite. Even thinking about it makes my mouth water.

Should one not eat candies when s/he is in late thirties? Do you eat candies? Are you at least as old as me? Do you have any favorites? Have you eaten this one? Did you like it? Have you ever experienced such a sweet moment with such a sweet kid?

The only candy I still want to eat is Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans! :D
Jokes apart, I love those Falero chocolates.. The strawberry and mango one are my all time faves!
When I was really small, I had got addicted to Poppins! I still wouldn't mind searching for Poppins in shops around my house, but they hardly seem to store it!
Would you by any chance have a stray box full of Poppins at your shop? ;)

I eat candies all the time. My favorite are those hardboiled orange and lemon ones, kachcha mango bite, Melody and so many. I often haggle with the kids to give me some. :)

I am not a huge lover of candies. For me, it has nothing to do with age. I just prefer spice over sweet. Always have. No, don't unfriend me yet. :P

Kids are so adorable. I have experienced something similar with my own son. Whenever he asks for something on my plate (of food), he feels obligated to offer something from his own. I clearly don't want anything in return, but I feel it is awfully sweet of him to offer. :)

Oh Poppins was good. Nope, I don't have any at my shop. I've only those toffees that sell for a rupee or 50 paise 'coz I use them as change sometimes, no.
Do you remember Paan Pasand? Have you ever eaten that? I used to love that as a kid!

Hahahahah! Rachna! You really haggle with the kids for candies! :D :D :D
That's a first one for me!
I remember Mango Bite and Melody... haven't had them for ages. Must find some.

So you don't like chocolates either then, Shantala?
Tch tch [shakes head in disbelief]
It's okay though... I won't unfriend you! 'Coz you write good posts! :D
What's the name of your son? And how old is he? He sounds like a really decent kid!

You should be able to find this one easily, Leo. It's a current favorite. So it's trending in all stores.
