My Favorite Bollywood Song

How can it be possible to choose just one favorite song from our Hindi movies? Right?

Still, there is this one Hindi song that just pulls me into it no matter what I might be doing that time or what my mood might be that time. Here's a picture from that song for you to guess it.

And here's the video of the song for you to check whether you guessed right or not! :D

That's right! It's Pehla Nasha from the movie Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar. Singers: Udit Narayan Jha and Sadhana Sargam. Lyricist: Majrooh Sultanpuri. Filmed on: Aamir Khan and Ayesha Jhulka.

Did you know that this was the first Bollywood song that was filmed completely in slow motion? I heard in an interview once that they had to lip-sing very fast for this song, so that when the video was played in slow motion (the way it had been planned), their lips would match the audio.

Anyway, I just love those opening notes. The moment I hear that tune, I get transported to a different world. Melodious and hypnotizing... no matter how many times I hear it, or however old I get! This is perhaps my most "feel-good" song of all times.

Do you like this song? Do you have any favorite numbers from Bollywood? Which ones?

That was so much fun to watch and listen to.Even though I don't understand Hindi, it was hard not to get caught up in the magic and fun of it all. Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed it.

I'm not a great fan of the oldies of the Bollywood music.. You know, the cool age? :D
If you ask me for one song from the age of which I was not a part of, I would say "Woh haseena zulfon wali.." Is my fave.. Is that the actual name of the song? *Hides face like those monkey emojis*
And currently, I really love the song "Meherbaan" from Bang Bang.. It's really soothing and nice!
For some party songs, I would always trust Yo Yo Honey Singh anyday! But "Sooraj Dooba Hai is also supercool!"

I looove this song too. As for favourites - there are so many many songs. Tough to select one or two or even ten.

Wowwwwww...Chicky, you made my day!!! I love this song, and every time I hear it, I wish I could fall in love all over again! And, that's exactly what I felt just now, while listening to it. Thank you! As for me, there are many songs I like..the one that goes on playing in my mind is,"Tum pukaar lo, tumhara intezaar hai", from the black and white movie, Khamoshi, starring Dharmendra, Waheeda Rehman and Rajesh Khanna. Listen to it and I am sure you will like it.

I love this song and so many oldies too. I have been trying to get my kids to watch this movie since forever.

Chicky said...

Me too, Soumya! It's just beautiful, isn't it?

Chicky said...

You're welcome, Cathy! I wish I could translate the lyrics for you, keeping their poetic essence intact! Unfortunately, I'm a humble prose person! I wouldn't be able to do any justice to this beautiful song.

Chicky said...

LOL! Mithila, it sounds so weird hearing this song being referred to as an "oldie"! :D
For us, oldies were Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar songs, from black & white movies! My sister likes Yo Yo Honey Singh's songs. I like very few songs from the current times. They are electronically enhanced and I find them very harsh on the ears. Most of them anyway.

True, Tulika. It would be difficult coming up with a top 10 list of favorite Bollywood songs. This song holds a different place in my life. Hence, this post happened.

Chicky said...

Exactly, Shilpa! You said it perfectly. It makes you want to fall in love all over again! :D
I must check out that song from Khamoshi. I can't recall it.

It was a cute movie, Rachna. I remember that bicycle race in the end. Used to take me back to the inter-house athletics meets at my school!

The 90s was one of the best era for Hindi songs..Love this one with Amir and the film of course.

Chicky said...

Oh yes, Ranveer! And I think R.D. Burman's time also saw some excellent music in Bollywood.

Amma Dekh (aa dekh) Tera Munda Bigda Jaye
Tuna Tuna, ta ta tuna
Chitthi Aayi Hai by Pankaj Udhas (sung with chitthi substituted with potty)
Chunari Chunari from Biwi no. 1

Really interesting bit of trivia that, Chicky. The bit about how they had to lip sync real fast to keep up with the video track.

Chicky said...

@Abhiroop: Either you have very little GK of Bollywood songs, or you are in the mood for beats. No, strike that. Strike the latter. You can't be in the mood for beats, 'coz then your list would comprise mostly of Pancham da. Have you got any song from him in your favourite list? I don't think so. In that case, you must be drunk. Yes, that must be it. That would also explain why you've mentioned all sharabi songs!

Chicky said...

@Abhiroop again: Thanks. I don't know how I retained that bit of info after all these years. And you know, the entire song really is in slow motion! And it gives me goosebumps every time I see it or listen to it. Like Shilpa Gupte said, it makes you want to fall in love all over again! :D

Abhiroop Banerjee said...

But I like these songs. I was limiting it to 90s. Of course I like RD songs, lots of them. I am not drunk. I enjoy chhicchora numbers. Don't scold me for that.

Chicky said...

Na na... no need to limit to the 90s! List your all-time fav Bollywood songs. Could be from any time.

Abhiroop Banerjee said...

Dhuyen mein udata gaya
Suhana Safar aur Ye Mausam Haseen
Chalat musafir moh liya re pinjre wali muniya
Sholay Soundtrack

Chicky said...

Can't remember the first one in your new list. Baki sab mast hain. Sholay is awesome. Both the movie and the music.

Abhiroop Banerjee said...

The first one is the Dev Anand-Rafi classic with the cigarette. Har fiqr ko dhuyen mein... Remember?

Chicky said...

Cigarette wala gaana! No wonder it tops your favourite list! :P
I think I remember it now.
