Make Someone Happy

While I was sick the last couple of months, I watched a lot of movies on my computer. In fact, I ended up watching most of the movies saved on my hard drive... and downloaded some more too! I usually prefer action movies, but after I ran out of my stock of action flicks, I had to make do with the rom-coms and other stuff.

Watched Sleepless in Seattle again. After a very long time. Many many years, I guess. Loved this song in it... "Make Someone Happy".

Here are my favorite lines from this song...

Make Someone Happy, Sleepless in Seattle

Make someone happy,
Make just ONE someone happy;
Make just one heart, the heart you sing to.
One smile that cheers you,
One face that lights when it nears you,
One girl you're ev'rything to.

Once you've found her,
Build your world around her.
Make someone happy,
Make just ONE someone happy,
And you will be happy, too.

And here's the video of this song...

"Feel good" kind of song, isn't it? :)

But, does this concept work in real life? Do people actually find happiness by making just that ONE special person happy, for whom they mean everything? That ONE heart to which their own heart sings?

I'm not so sure about that. At least, I don't see it happening in India...

Anyway, what's new around here? I've been gone for quite a while... what all did I miss? And how have you all been doing?

. . .

I was just thinking about you last evening and tried to send you a message on FB but I think you've closed down your account. Hope you are well now. What had happened? I must admit I haven't been too active online either the last month and a bit...too busy offline! :D

Hi PB! Good to see you again, girl! :D
Yes, I'm off Facebook at the moment. Trying to stay off the PC as much as possible. Better, but still on a one-day-at-a-time basis. Some medical complications.

Hmm dunoo if it is really possible or nor...I might even challlenge the notion that our hapiness lies in somebody else's happiness.....I mean are we not happy of we are single? Or for that matter even if think of love beyond the usual boy-girl relationship...

As far as what is happening!!! Welll if u ask me nothing much....hows ur health now? Fully recovered? Take care dear...

Good to see you back, Kadambari! And hope you have recovered completely!
I think it works... being happy in making the other person happy. May be we dont consciously think about it so it does not register!!

You know, Smita... you have a very valid point there. I think I'll have to dedicate an entire post to it.
How's "the little brat" btw? (You always refer to him by that term in your posts, so I have sort of nicknamed him "the little brat"! :P)
Not fully recovered yet, but yeah... getting there... :D

Hi Shilpa! How are you, girl? :D
Yeah that makes sense... doing things for others' happiness subconsciously. It probably happens because of all the stuff fed into our young impressionable minds in those moral studies classes in school.

Absolutely LOVELY to have you back, Kaddu! :)

Your average Indian has always been a teeth-grittingly self-righteous, viciously petty, stubbornly regressive, staggeringly selfish, cold blooded, laughably spineless and thoroughly indecent, smug bastard.

He brings out his claws in situations where he is comfortable in the knowledge of the support of his fellow cads, the coward.

Thanks OB!

A bit late in asking this... but kisse panga karke woh second waala comment daala tha? :D It doesn't happen very often... you going on such a hot-headed rant! That's usually my department! :P :P :P

Waise I totally agree with the bits about an *average Indian* being petty, regressive, selfish and spineless!

Yes, I believe if you make someone happy you can be happy too, just to see the smile on ones face, brings a smile to mine , so I agree. I was kinda depressed and pulled up the song Happy on utube and it sure made me happy just to hear that song, hey not only did I get happy I got my exercise dancing around the house, you know the song " Happy",by Pharrell Williams? I also notice othee times when I make people laugh, well they laugh too.Being Happy brings happiness and love as to where bringing sadness brings pain and sorrow.Just one smile sometimes is all it takes and hey it doesn't cost anything to be nice and happy, but being sad is a hell of a price to pay.

Hello June. I have no idea how I missed replying to your comment! I am so sorry!
You are right... happiness does multiply by sharing it with others, but how can we share what we don't have ourselves? And do we really need to make everyone around us happy? Is that really our job? I mean, should we take up engineering only because it makes our parents happy, when we really want to act in plays?
