Orderliness: Photo A Day - I Care About This...

Day 21 of "May Photo A Day Challenge" : I Care About This...

Unfortunately, I don't have any social cause I care much about currently. Neither do I have any pets or kids. :( But, there's one thing I've always cared so much about that it wouldn't be wrong to refer to it as an Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. And that's my fanaticism for orderliness.

Be it books in my books almirah, or clothes in my wardrobe, or the crockery in my kitchen cabinet... everything must be in its proper place. I cannot stand disorder and chaos... where I have to hunt for things.

This OCD has subsided a bit in the last few years, but when I was in school, I was such an order-freak that everything even had a fixed linear order! For example, my clothes. Dress G had to be after dress F and before dress H, so that I would tell my sister from the other room that "please give me the 5th suit from the left in my cupboard", and she would bring me the correct suit. Same with books or audio cassettes or anything else, for that matter. You could blindfold me, and I would still be able to pick the right item from the stack, just by counting.

My old Farmville neighbors will probably remember... even my farm was subjected to this particular OCD of mine! For those of you who never got into virtual farming, or couldn't make it into my neighborhood, here's an old screenshot of my farm loooong ago... (even before I saved enough money for my mansion!)

Beautiful, wasn't it? And naah... don't worry... I have no plans of getting back to online farming! I care about my eyes too! LOL! :P

This is my 21st post for 2013 May Photo A Day Challenge.

Why dont u visit my house for a while..i can do with a dose of OCD. So unruly are we :-/

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

Hahhaahhah! Meena, you sound exactly like my old best friend in school. She used to call me up and say - "Kaddu, yaar almari set karni hai... kapde nahi mil rahe... kal aa jaana tum"!

And after marriage, she's settled in Bangalore. She calls me even from there, and pleads "ek round laga lo tum Bangalore ka.. almari jacha dena meri"!
=)) =))

The last time, when I was at your place, I was impressed with your orderliness in the cupboards and kitchens. I thought I had an OCD for cleanliness, but you beat me at this. I told KG about the neat and orderly look of your place. The next weekend when I was doing some spring cleaning in kitchen and spent some 4 hours doing that... KG told me, "you certainly seemed to be inspired by your friend" :D
LOL :D I always wondered about the orderly arrangement of the animals and trees on your farm! Now, I know what it was! :D
Am still laughing at your friend's need for you to visit her manage her almirahs! LOL :D

Yikes! I don't think I can live with such orderliness. I am the kind of person who purposely makes even hotel rooms look shabby to make it feel like home. :D

This is how I was about 5 years back (before my daughter, that is!) In fact my friends used to call me 'Monica' from F.R.I.E.N.D.S.

Now, it just does not matter anymore, cuz I hardly have any time, plus with a child you just can't be THAT orderly. I remember back then my FB farm used to look just like this with all animals lined up and eve the tractors and equipments...I miss those days...Don't play farm anymore! :)

I loved your orderliness. I care for it too, even more than reading. Because when I have spare time the first thing I do is put everything in place, clean, sweep, swab whatever it takes. The cushions on the sofa or the oil containers next to the gas, everything has to be clean and on its place. Of course, now with a toddler, I don't get so much time to be obsessive about it but I have delegated work to 2 maids and I use the time I save in putting things in order ha ha. That is non-negotiable.

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

Ahem! Smita, perhaps I should pay you a visit too then? :p
LOL! Thanks yaar... my sister used to get really irritated with this habit of mine. That's why it came so easily to her that I should write about this for today's prompt!

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

Hahahahahaha Shilpa! I may suffer from OCD for orderliness, but for cleanliness... nobody can beat you! :D :P

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

LOL! Jyothi, you sound exactly like my sister! She also has to mess things up a bit to make it look like humans live here, not robots! (Meaning me, yes!)

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

@Kajal - Wow! Has it really been 5 years since people started playing FarmVille? Time flies so soon na? And yeah, I can understand how things change with kids. Those less-than-2-feet-high "creatures" are filled with so much energy for messing up the house that we'd probably need at least an extra 12 hours per day to match our tidiness skills with them!

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

@Reema - Oh yessss! Kitchen has to be clean! To the extent that even maids come and complain... "Didi aapko jitna safai mangta hai, utna to kisi ko nahin chahiye hota!" [rolls eyes in disbelief]

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

Afshan, I'm curious... when you open your cupboard, do things fall out from it? I've always wanted to see that happening... you know, like in cartoon movies... as soon as you open the door of the cupboard, things topple out! Does that ever happen with you? :P

And my mum was just the opposite. Things used to be piled up in her almirah haphazardly. I used to wonder how she ever found what she was looking for. But she had awesome memory, and that ensured that she never had to hunt for things! I suppose I get my OCD from my Dad, while my sis takes after mom apparently. :|

The farm did look good, didn't it? Sighhh... I really miss it at times!

JANU said...

I have eased a bit too.

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

@Janu - Ahh! So you were another orderliness freak like me? Cool! :D

Nandana said...

Hahaha...too much. Smiling throughout. :)

I've an OCD Dad and an OCD elder sister, they are such a pain-in-the-neck. I gave them many pains-in-the-back by making them pick stuff after I leave them lying about. Now I'm quite an OCD myself :D

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

Haahh, Nandana! That's exactly how my sister feels about me too! Dad & I are the two OCD specimens for orderliness in our family!

Unfortunately, unlike you, my sister still hasn't caught the gene, and still keeps giving us many pain-in-the-backs, whenever she visits, by making us pick stuff after her! :|

Arshad Usmani said...

Good shelf. So you like 'Llarson' and John Grisham. And you like childish books like Twilight series too.

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

Thanks Arshad.
Haven't read Larsson yet... too many books, too little time! :(
John Grisham is ok. Recently finished the third in the Langdon series by Dan Brown. Still have to get my hands on the 4th one, which released a few days ago.
Twilight is fun (at least from the 3rd book onwards)... but I like Enid Blyton more in the kids' stuff. I think I have a couple of Enid Blyton's in the back row in one of the shelves.

Avada Kedavra said...

I like orderliness too but not as much as you do for sure :)

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

That's good Avada! People like me only end up cleaning after others! :P

Abhiroop Banerjee said...

Grinning at how your friend keeps hoping for a chaos-busting visit from you!

How clean and orderly your house is remarkable specially because we live in a terrifically dust prone part of the country :-)

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

Arre OB, you will see plenty of dust if you come for a visit now! I'm not even bothering to clean it these days 'coz it goes back to looking exactly the same after an hour!
