30 Days of Me: The Prized Possession...

Day 24 of "30 Days of Me"
A photo of something that means a lot to you.

Actually, it's not just one photo. Rather, I should say that taking just one photo of it would not have been able to convey the reason why this *thing* means so much to me. So here's a slideshow. You can click on the "pause" button at the bottom of the slideshow to go through the slides at your own pace.

It consists of a few pages from my "baby diary" that my mom maintained for me after I was born. Stuff that she has written about me, in her own hand! It's priceless! What all names she thought for me. What all activities she noted about me. Some of my early pics. She even preserved the first birthday card I ever received, in that diary! It's almost like my very own "baby blog"!

I just so-so wish she was still alive, so I could have taught her how to blog. She would have loved it. She would have created a recipe blog for sure, 'coz she loved cooking! And maybe another one for all the different arts and crafts she knew. And who knows... maybe a personal blog too, where she would have mostly boasted about her two out-of-the-world angels! LOL! That's the way she treated my sister and me usually!

Anyways... here's the slideshow...

This is my 24th post for NaBloPoMo September 2011.

Bhaad mein gaya Color Junction. Har baat mein CJ CJ karna band kariye aap. Main nei khelta jao.

Aur haan, old paper can turn brittle and even crumble with age. How do you plan on preserving the diary?

(let me know if comments in hindi typed in roman characters annoy you. last thing I want is another post from you ranting about those clowns who type hindi in english)

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

The pages of this diary seem to be of fairly good quality. They'll probably last longer than me! :D

And naah... no issues with people typing Hindi in English. We all do it in chat anyways. And even in mails at times. Btw, I recently installed the Google Transliteration tool... तो उससे हिंदी में type करने में बड़ा आराम हो जाता है! बड़ा मज़ा भी आता है! See I just typed all that through that tool... it's totally cool! :D :D :D

What games did you play with your mum? I've played Ludo, rummy and what we named 'desher khela' (the game of countries).

Carrom, cards... but mostly antakshari. We used to have major power cut-downs in Kanpur back then, and the huge terrace used to be our respite. Plus, there weren't all those 100s of TV channels to surf through; no internet either. So the free time was spent in activities involving the family. :D

The terrace. Could there be any better post dinner amusement for a city bred 6yr old than a romp on the chhat? :-)

I turn red still, when I recall one mad morning in June back in the early 90's, when we, we were three boys all of the rather alarming age of 4 years, were busy going at each other with a hose pipe, buck naked, when a man piloting a light glider plane from a nearby airfield swooped down to 10 feet over our heads just to point and laugh at us!

Oh my! Your mom sure would had been a blogger! I am amazed to see the baby book she maintained! I thought such things were done by we mommies of the recent times! And she has such a nice handwriting!
You could have been Shilpa!! Wow!! Would it be freaky to note that we share the same nick names too!?! :D

Chicky a.k.a. Kaddu said...

I know! And she would have totally loved blogging! I still have some of her old stuff... recipes she used to note down from various sources, sometimes in diaries and sometimes on loose sheets of paper... knitting & embroidery designs cut out from magazines... Hindi songs that were usually performed in the "Ladies Sangeet" in wedding functions...! She most certainly had all the traits of a personal blogger! Guess she was way ahead of her times!

LOL! It would have been REALLY crazy if we'd both been 'Shilpa' and 'Chicky'! Hehehehehe! :D :D :D
