Live Life: Pamper Yourself

In many parts of the world, and most certainly in India, females are still brought up primarily as the care giver. We just get so busy with being the good daughter, the good sister, the good wife and the good mother, that we completely forget our responsibilities towards our self! So, while this post applies to everyone, irrespective of gender, it carries special significance for women. We are always pampering everyone else around us, but we need to remind ourselves that we need pampering too.

A few ways in which I love to pamper myself:

A Good Body Massage.

There is absolutely nothing in the world that can make you feel better than a good body massage! There are zillions of acupressure points along the spine and all over your back. Actually, these points are present all over the body, but the ones along the spine are slightly more important because they remotely control various parts of the body. Same holds true for the palms and the soles of the feet. For that reason, a good foot massage can be equally relaxing and refreshing as a back massage.

Well, need I say anything more on this point? Eating chocolate signals the brain to release endorphins that make us feel good. Such cravings for “something sweet & fatty” are a part of body’s inbuilt mechanism to fight stress. So go ahead then - pamper those stressed-out cells. Have a small portion of your favorite chocolate!

Fresh Flowers.

Flowers have healing properties. They automatically absorb the negativities from the surroundings. That is why it is customary to take flowers for a sick person. They help in a speedier recovery. They make excellent gifts for perfectly healthy people too, by the way! I simply LOVE to receive fresh flowers from anyone! And if people around me get too caught up in life, I just go ahead and buy some flowers for myself! My favorites are yellow flowers, of any variety – sunflowers, roses, tulips – anything really, so long as it’s yellow in color. Yellow flowers automatically bring a smile on my face.

Harry Potter Books.

So what if I am 30+! As a kid, I used to enjoy reading about those Enchanted Woods and Faraway Trees created by Enid Blyton! And today, I enjoy losing myself in J K Rowling’s fictional world of Magic and Enchantments! I have read the entire series N number of times already, and I still pick one out at random anytime I feel like taking a break.

Action Movies.

Die Hard series, Bourne series, Lethal Weapon, Rambo, Ocean’s, and so many other such fast-paced high action movies, including ones of Jackie Chan – I like them more than I like watching romantic movies. In a way, these movies are similar to the Harry Potter books – they leave you feeling motivated and optimistic. They let you believe that “anything is possible”.

The sexy voice of Aasha Bhonsle & Ricky Martin!

Weird combination? I know! But I totally love these two voices! Soft and velvety, and so naughty! Sexy. There is no other term for these voices! They give you those goody-goody goose bumps, you know… so that you feel like taking the Earth in your hands, and giving her a big smoooooch!

Surfing Through Old Photo Albums.

Whether it’s my childhood photographs or my sister’s, or, in more recent times, my nephew UV’s, pictures of happy kids always make me feel good. So this is also one of the ways in which I usually recharge my tired spirits.

I have listed some of the ways in which I usually pamper myself. But every individual is unique. Find out what works best for you – good food, long bath, a jog, playing with your pet dog or kitty, or something else.

Taking some time out to pamper yourself is important to keep your soul young and vibrant, no matter how old your physical body might be.

So make yourself feel special. And life will become an equally special experience!

This is my sixth post for NaBloPoMo September 2010.

I cannot agree more with you on this! Yes, women feel selfish, if they want to care for or pamper themselves. Incidently, I also wrote a similar post, on being in touch with the inner child " Hey Woman, Stay Girl", on my blog.

We women should really learn to have some fun and relaxation!

Nice post!
