Being a Capricorn! #FridayReflections

I have been crazy about zodiac signs since I was a kid. I personally own copies of Linda Goodman's Sun Signs, Star Signs, Love Signs, and Relationship Signs. And I never fail to check out any website that gives information about the zodiac signs, or even any Facebook app that promises to tell me more about my zodiac sign - Capricorn.

This is a post I first published on 8-Aug-2009. It is the result from one such Facebook app, created by some website that may or may not exist anymore. I have given its URL at the bottom, so you can check it out if you wish to.

The FridayReflections prompt on Sanchie's blog this week reminded me of this post. So I'm updating it and re-posting it today, to link up with her prompt. I have added my own personal notes to these results in maroon color.

Positive Traits

The Sea Goat

Negative Traits

The animal symbol applied to Capricorn is the goat. Unlike the dependent, creative and countrified Goat in the Chinese horoscope, the Capricornian mountain goat is a striver and a loner (So true!), an ambitious, deliberate achiever, and an adorable (I think you guys will be a better judge of this!) person to know.

It's true that Capricorns can be bossy and self-confident in the extreme. But probe a stiff-upper-lipped Capricorn and you'll find there lives, under all that tension and apparent angularity, a sentimental and warm-hearted darling. (I wish I could deny this, but I cannot!)

The way to handle Capricorns is to show them from the beginning that you are as strong and self-willed as they are. (Most fail at this point!) And should you not feel sufficiently strong and self-willed, you'd better pick on someone your own size. (Follow this advice!)

Capricorns prefer competition. The Capricorn subject is always either on top of the heap or moving-slowly but certainly-toward the summit of his field. (Not too sure about this.) Like tall evergreens, they withstand the snows and heat, the wind and rain. (Oh yes! Long after most people would have given up!) Capricorns are winter people. They can hold their heads higher and longer than all the others and somehow never appear to be pushing.

In general the Capricorn subject is as rigid in his body as in his high-minded principles. He may be good at games that demand corporal discipline, but in areas that call for supple smooth body movement (That includes dancing!), Capricorns are challenged.

Capricorn children fall a lot. (OMG! How did they know this? :-O) Capricorn adults are clumsy. (By 'clumsy', do they mean that we tend to slide down stairs and walk into glass doors?) You want to warn them, "Be careful. Watch where you're going. Take smaller steps. Slow down. Relax." It is of course impossible for Capricorn to relax. (Sighhhhh!) He is always on the qui vive, responsive to each new invitation to achieve.

The Capricorn loves to entertain and adores food. (Did anyone mention 'food'?) He receives guests with a spirit of generosity in both the welcome he offers and the fare he prepares. Often, Capricorns make fantastic chefs and know how to cook the most complicated foods. (Well, I'm not highly domestic, you know... but when I DO cook with interest, it turns out to be excellent to taste!)

Partly, this devotion to fine cuisine comes from the Capricorn's desire to please. But mostly the attention to food, native to every Capricorn soul, arises from pure joy in eating. (We're born to eat, aren't we? :D) Capricorn babies rarely have feeding problems. They chow down with gusto just about anything put within their reach. (I can see my Mom up in Heaven, vigorously nodding her head at this!)

Success often comes to Capricorn because he was paying attention while everyone else was goofing off. But if, God forbid, he misses the boat - was not even goofing off and still fails - then the ordinarily well-arranged marbles inside the pretty Capricorn head begin to shift dangerously, and melancholy sets in. (Big time melancholy!) Capricorns hate failure. (That's an understatement actually!)

Capricorns are very conscious of the impression they make on others. They are allergic to vulgarity and bad manners. Society judges. Others of us may say, "What do I care for society? I am a free agent." Not your social-conscious Capricorn. If only for the sake of the gallery's approbation, Capricorn will conform. (Not so sure about this one either. Maybe in some respects.)

You can always count on Capricorns to come through in times of trouble or need. (Absolutely!) They are charitable to others and eager to assist those in difficulty or illness.

Sometimes they are hard to reach emotionally and seem rather "pent-up" and stiff inside. (Haah! Ask my close friends... they'll vouch for this one! :p) But if you can break the hermetic barrier, you will be pleasantly surprised. (But breaking that barrier is no child's play!)

Physical contact can be a bit on the bony side at first but the Capricorn's enthusiasm soon takes the edge off. (??? I am certainly not that much into hugs and embraces, if that's what they mean.)

. . .

This is one of the most accurate astrological analyses I've found on the net till-date. If any of you wishes to find out about your sun-sign, you can check out "".

I wonder why it gives the heading as "The SEA Goat" though... Capricorns are always referred to as "The MOUNTAIN Goat"!

So now that I share the same Goat with you.. let me analyze few things here itself...:D

Capricorns make fantastic chefs and know how to cook the most complicated foods
The food I cook is always complicated for others to cook, most of the time i put things in there wid blindfolded eyes.

Sometimes they are hard to reach emotionally and seem rather "pent-up" and stiff inside.
Hmmm...yeah...Dipu always complaints about that...:D

They chow down with gusto just about anything put within their reach.
That explains why I am 90 kgs..

Capricorn adults are clumsy
That explains why I do have adventures mentioned in Sidoscope...:D

Yupp I read somewhere on ur blog that u r a Capri. But seriously, I think we Capris are really very amicable people, always adjust in any situation.

Food is our life! I think when it comes to food, there is only one sign that can give us any competition, and that's Cancer.

Kaddu said...

Why? Does it say awful things abt Librans? I doubt it though... Librans have an enchanting smile for one, which can easily get them out of any trouble!

me is a taurian. Most taurians are highly reserved, quite and stubborn. Including me. I am hyper reserved and quite amidst people i dont know. I have this label of being arrogant and unfriendly, when my problem is i am extrely shy.

Capricorn too are nice people. They are friendly and creative. yea, dependable. I had a former colleague who was capricon. We used to fight regularly, but i realized her worth only after She left. Now we are best of buddies. Nice post. :))

Taureans and Capris usually get along well. Of course, most people don't take Capricorns seriously until it's too late! ;) :D

Signs of extreme impatience! I do that ALL the time. Can't type as fast as we think. Hence the typos! Well, what can be done about it!

Na na! I'm not participating. Just wanted to be of help in finalizing topics! :D Been following blog-a-ton from the first round itself... unofficially though. My blogging is highly erratic, and I might end up not writing any post on the given topic! in fact, I might even end up missing the date! That's usually what's happened in the indiblogger of the month competitions for the last 2 months!

Well, I am a taurean and I love being one! :D

Kaddu said...

Hey that's cool dude! So 2 Taureans now who read my blog! :D ZB is also one. I like Taureans. Most people believe them to be kind of stubborn but I think they are just determined and highly stable.

I looked up my brother in law (subject of my blog)'s sign on the Cute Horoscope and the site didn't seem to work at all - alas. As for me, I think I have a lot of the attributes of people of my sign. And my poor husband has three of us - his sister and his mother's birth dates are within 3 days of mine (different years).

I'm a Capricorn and I certainly love my food! Have to admit I had to google Epicureanism and when I did, I didn't see why it would be negative trait... ahem...

Totally identify with a lot of that --- the melancholy, the loner, the clumsiness, the fear of failure, the ambition....sigh. Only a fellow-Capri would understand I suppose! Thanks for linking up :)

@ The Unknown Journey Ahead: I had a feeling it might not work now. Long time since 2009. What is your sun sign?

Chicky Kadambari said...

Me too, Ness! Maybe they meant it as a negative trait if in excess. Thank you for dropping over!

Chicky Kadambari said...

Oh absolutely true, Sanch. For the rest of the world, these are only words. But only a fellow Capri can understand what we actually feel and experience, and how difficult it is for us to open up.
