30 Days of Me: The Month's Blessings...

Day 30 of "30 Days of Me"
A photograph of yourself today + three good things that have happened in the past 30 days.

This 30-day theme started with a photograph of me, and today, it ends with another one. I told my Dad I needed a fresh pic for today's post. So he finally obliged...

The above was taken just a few minutes ago. And my eyes look so tired 'coz... well, they ARE tired. It's because of them that I was forced to quit FarmVille completely! Sighhhh!

Anyways, coming to the second part of this post... three blessings I received this month...

1. The very first blessing was the one that I wrote about in the first two posts of this month... the baggage-clearing and subsequently losing weight overnight.

2. Then my sister's severe foot injury happened, which was a blessing in disguise, as it gave us the chance to spend such a lot of quality time with each other, just before she got married. (The two of us playing UNO late into the nights was a sure crazy sight!)

3. And third, I finally got a definitive answer to my intense mulling sessions of the past few months! Now that the harrowing decision-making is done with, the implementation part seems like a piece of cake. (I guess, in some ways, I'm very similar to Bella Swan, despite the fact that I don't much like that character!)

Well, with these three blessings, the month is over. So is this round of NaBloPoMo. The third successfully completed batch of "30 posts in 30 days" marks the "return" of me in ways only I can understand. And I'm grateful to God for returning such a vital part of my soul back to me... after more than a decade!

This is my 30th (last) post for NaBloPoMo September 2011.

30 Days of Me: The Evergreen Passion...

Day 29 of "30 Days of Me"
Something you could never get tired of doing.

Blogging, I suppose. Close to 500 posts and 5 years of blogging at miss_teerious, this probably is the longest I've stuck around with anything. (Other than school, I guess!)

There have been times when I took my blog off the public radar, but I continued to write even then... even if just for myself.

And before this blog took birth, I used to narrate my 1000-word expressions through other mediums... random sheets of paper, snail-mails & emails to friends, and even through my old personal homepage - "Kadambari's Home on the Web".

I created that old website almost a decade ago... end of 2001 or early 2002. And I've managed to fit in such a LOT of content there, even with just static HTML and no blogging platform, that it amazes me at times!

I wonder if I'll continue blogging here for a decade... I probably will, so long as Blogger continues to remain free!

I wonder how I'd feel when I go back to my very early posts... probably as amazed as I feel now, while going through my old scribblings!

You know at times I get this crazy desire to ask my friends to return all the snail-mails I ever sent them... so I could read them all again... see what kind of crap I wrote back then... maybe compare it with the crap I write now...! (I know... I already said it was *crazy*, didn't I?)

Anyways, time to go make dinner now. Vacation from cooking gets over today, as I'm back from my over 3-week long stay in Delhi! :P

This is my 29th post for NaBloPoMo September 2011.

30 Days of Me: The Movie List...

Day 28 of "30 Days of Me"
Your favorite movie.

How can there be just one favorite movie? It's practically not possible! Even for a person like me, who's not a movie buff! So, a slight edit to today's topic too: I'm going to list some of my all-time favorite movies in this post... movies that usually make me forget whatever I was doing and glue my eyes to the screen... movies that I can watch again and again and again.

Let me start with English movies first, because I usually prefer those as they're shorter. They're not listed in any order, by the way.

True Lies - Pure action.

Oceans Series - The scheming, the attitude of all the characters, the crazy group dynamics.

Bourne Series - Awesomely fast paced.

Die Hard Series (All except the 3rd one) - The character of John McClane.

Lethal Weapon Series - Action is there, of course, but, the blast scenes are just surreal. Plus the character of Riggs.

Harry Potter Series - The first one of the series is always a definite mood-lifter, no matter how depressed I may be.

Back To The Future - Just liked the whole concept of time travel, and the way it was presented in the series. Good out-of-the-box thinking.

Miss Congeniality 1 & 2 - Sandra Bullock's acting... although it never looks like acting!

Princess Diaries 1 & 2 - Anne Hathaway is just soooo spontaneous! Her timing is simply perfect.

Pretty Woman - Julia Roberts... always makes me go "Ooooooooh!" in this movie! :P

Baby's Day Out - Pure unadulterated comedy.

Men In Black (I)- Fantastic concept. Fantastic Will Smith. Best scene of the movie: when he goes to give the "aptitude test", breaks his pencil, tears his answer sheet, and then drags the heavy center table right up to his chair, AND has the nerve to offer it to his neighbor too!

Terminator 2 - Arnold is real cute in this movie. "Cute... and Arnold?" I know, but really.... he is. Funny... in a very cute sort of way. Read this...

John Connor: No, no, no, no. You gotta listen to the way people talk. You don't say "affirmative," or some shit like that. You say "no problemo." And if someone comes on to you with an attitude you say "eat me." And if you want to shine them on it's "hasta la vista, baby."
The Terminator: Hasta la vista, baby.
John Connor:
Yeah but later, dickwad. And if someone gets upset you say, "chill out"! Or you can do combinations.
The Terminator: Chill out, dickwad.
John Connor:
Great! See, you're getting it!
The Terminator: No problemo.

Titanic - One movie that always makes me cry, but I love it, mostly for the beautiful portrayal of love.

And coming to some Hindi movies now... I don't watch them as often as the English favorites, primarily because I can't sit in one place for so long. But these are some of the ones that I enjoy watching...

Chak De India - Love the spirit of sport portrayed in it. Love the thrill when Team India wins the finals... even if it's a fictional win. LOL! :P

3 Idiots - Story. Screenplay. Dialogues. Acting. Songs. Everything.

Satte Pe Satta - Amitabh Bachchan... ooooooooooooooh! :P

Sholay - Dialogues. It's absolute fun reciting ALL the dialogues along with the scenes happening on the screen.

Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar - Reminds me of the school days... inter-house athletics meet, inter-house music competitions, compulsory P.T. sessions... nostalgia. Plus of course, there's Aamir Khan, in his prime, looking his best.

Pyar To Hona Hi Tha - No specific reason that I can highlight here, but I still love watching this one any time. Sort of a "feel-good" movie.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi - The character played by Shahrukh Khan! Uffff! Hilarious! Best scene of the movie: When he proudly carries his shiny new oh-so-yellow tiffin-box to office!

Masoom (Old) - Don't have enough words to describe the beauty of this movie... and the sentiments it portrays. It just touches somewhere... every single time.

Munna Bhai MBBS - A blockbuster. Perfect in every sense. Perhaps it wouldn't be too much to say that "it's *the* Sholay of our generation."

Well, there are many other movies too that I enjoyed watching, but I may not like to watch re-runs of them as frequently as the ones listed above. It's also possible that I may have missed a few. So if I remember any more, I will update this list.

30 Days of Me: The Past Year...

Day 27 of "30 Days of Me"
A picture of you last year and now and how you changed since then?

It's becoming increasingly impossible to find my own recent pics in my hard drive, as I'm the one usually *behind* the camera! For the entire 2010, I found just 2 photographs of me -- both taken on the Deepawali day. Here's one of them...

And a picture of me now... I'll save it for the 30th post.

The major changes in me in the past one year...

- more self-dependent

- more introvert

- more faith

Day 26 of "30 Days of Me"
A photo of somewhere you’ve been to.

The above is a picture of a construction site in Jaipur. Went to the city recently. Forgot to take pics of anything else. Even though I did take a camera along to get food for this post. Blame it on "Short Term Memory Loss"!

30 Days of Me: The Purse...

Day 25 of "30 Days of Me"
What’s in your purse?

The contents of my purse usually keep changing, but today, at the time of writing this post, this is what's in my purse...

- A couple of key rings with some keys.
- A couple of pens.
- A small spiral diary (cum visiting-card-holder).
- A blue napkin.
- My usual money-bag, with some money, some cards and a tiny Ganeshji.

And with that, I'm left with just 5 more posts to do in this month. It's pretty amazing how the days seem to have fled by this time. Such a lot has happened...

This is my 25th post for NaBloPoMo September 2011.

30 Days of Me: The Prized Possession...

Day 24 of "30 Days of Me"
A photo of something that means a lot to you.

Actually, it's not just one photo. Rather, I should say that taking just one photo of it would not have been able to convey the reason why this *thing* means so much to me. So here's a slideshow. You can click on the "pause" button at the bottom of the slideshow to go through the slides at your own pace.

It consists of a few pages from my "baby diary" that my mom maintained for me after I was born. Stuff that she has written about me, in her own hand! It's priceless! What all names she thought for me. What all activities she noted about me. Some of my early pics. She even preserved the first birthday card I ever received, in that diary! It's almost like my very own "baby blog"!

I just so-so wish she was still alive, so I could have taught her how to blog. She would have loved it. She would have created a recipe blog for sure, 'coz she loved cooking! And maybe another one for all the different arts and crafts she knew. And who knows... maybe a personal blog too, where she would have mostly boasted about her two out-of-the-world angels! LOL! That's the way she treated my sister and me usually!

Anyways... here's the slideshow...

30 Days of Me: The Facts...

Day 23 of "30 Days of Me"
15 facts about you.

Now this topic is a real toughie! I have already written so many facts about me here, in all those tags that my blog buddies gave me to do, that finding 15 more is a bit difficult. Ok, let me give it a try anyway...

1. I am stubborn.
Yes! Very stubborn. Typical Capricorn in this respect. Once I make up my mind about doing something, then not even Lord Brahma can stop me. People usually find this trait in me irritating, but I feel it's my biggest strength, as it often helps me do things that most people give up on even before starting.

2. I am like an iceberg.
In the sense that what you see is just the tip - there's plenty more beneath the surface. Most people like to form judgments about people too soon. They're the ones who find it most difficult to keep up with me.

3. I like my alone time.
This one should be pretty obvious to my old readers, considering the number of times I have taken a sabbatical from all forms of social networking! It's like I need to go off and recharge my batteries or something!

4. I love sunsets.
Especially their reflections in water. Like a beautiful painting. The various shades of red and yellow. And the sparkling golden rays. Like a million glittering topaz crystals.

5. I like photography.
Even though my first experience with a camera resulted in just 27 clean shots out of 2 rolls of 36 films each, I seem to fare pretty well with my digital Canon Powershot A610. I got this camera in November 2005, and I still don't feel the need to replace it with a newer model. The above sunset was captured by me in Nagpur, from this same camera. So was this sunrise below in Guwahati.

6. I love playing dumb-charades.
It was our favorite pastime in the free-periods in senior school... a dumb-charades match between girls & boys. And I totally loved it! Have enacted some really weird movie names... one of the toughest being "Kartavyabodh". But my best friend SA understood me so well, we managed to do that one too! :D

7. I like doing embroidery.
I don't remember when my mom gave me my first needle and thread, but I DO remember that I made a handkerchief (more like a napkin) when I was 6 years old. I was in class one that time. It was a piece of blue casement fabric, with the sketch of a coffee cup in one corner (complete with the smoke curls on top). I used stem stitch to embroider that pattern and the basic running stitch along the folded edges of the cloth. The stem stitch was pretty neat even then, but the running stitch was totally shabby! :p

8. I hate working on laptops.
At home, I normally work on my desktop. But these days, since I am in Delhi, I'm forced to use my Dad's laptop. I really hate working on it. I have such a terrible backache! And neck-ache! And shoulder-ache! And that's when I'm using 3 pillows below the laptop, so that I don't have to bend too much! How DO people manage to work on their laptops for so long?

9. I cannot skip breakfast.
Even if I'm on a fast, I cannot start my day on an empty stomach. The first meal of the day has always been a vital necessity for me. Even in school days, I needed to eat something before I left house for the bus stop.

10. I don't like 'Holi'.
I hate it, in fact. In its current form, that is. When I was a kid, I used to totally love it. But back then, we had our water pistols. Even buckets full of colored water. It wasn't customary then to grab people from behind and rub greasy stuff on their faces! Yucks!

11. I'm scared of cockroaches.
Those big ones. That can fly too. I'm as scared of them as my sister is of lizards. Actually, I think I'm scared of all flying bugs. But I like lizards, 'coz lizards eat those annoying bugs!

12. I am "moley".
I have a very visible mole above my right eyebrow. It's genetic. I get it from my grandma, i.e. my dad's mom. People have often suggested I should get it removed surgically. But I'm the type who doesn't believe in fixing things unless they are broken. So I'll start thinking about getting rid of my birthmark only if it starts creating any problem for me.

13. I'm good at packing.
Really. I did most of the packing when we left Kanpur. My sister was watching me fill up a box with odd stuff one day... and after a while, she commented that everything seemed to turn into obedient little children in my hands, and quietly took their assigned places! Well, I sure do have a knack for fitting in a LOT of stuff in small places.

14. I suffer from OCD.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Regarding tilted/crooked wall-hangings. Yes. I simply cannot stand it. I feel it's great un-justice to a piece of art if you cannot even hang it properly. I get this inexplicable urge to get up and straighten it, even if I'm at someone else's place. I've learnt to control this urge now though - I simply look the other way.

15. I still hate tags!
They may be good for getting rid of writers' blocks, but the bottom-line remains that I hate doing them. I hate digging up so much stuff about myself at one go. Besides, there's a limit to the amount of personal stuff you can put up on a public blog, right? Even if it is a personal blog!

So finally, the 15 facts about me are complete. I hope the remaining 7 topics of this 30-day theme are a bit easier.

Here's more in "Tags (or memes)"!

30 Days of Me: The Letter...

Day 22 of "30 Days of Me"
A letter to someone who has hurt you recently.

I'm going to change this one slightly. Instead of writing this letter to one specific person, I'm going to address it to everybody who has hurt me recently. Why? You'll know as you read along...

Dear people-who-have-hurt-me,

Thank you for helping me figure out what I REALLY want from life. Had it not been for you all, I would have never understood what turns me on and what doesn't. I would have never found out what brings a smile to my face and what makes me sad. I wouldn't have known what inspires me to be better and what brings out the worst in me. I wouldn't have realized what makes me feel good about myself and the world, and what makes me want to hide in a hole and die.

Your hurtful acts mean so much more to me right now... when I'm at this juncture in my life where I'm sorting through all the stuff I've been carrying along... to decide what to take on with me to the "next chapter"... to the fresh picture on my "clean slate". If you hadn't shown me your true colors now, I wouldn't have been able to leave you behind with a guilt-free heart.

So thank you once again, for giving me the opportunity to know myself better.

30 Days of Me: The Sunshine...

Day 21 of "30 Days of Me"
A photo of something that makes you happy.

Had it been "someONE" instead of "someTHING", I would have posted a picture of my nephew Yuvraj. (But then, that would have probably been totally obvious to my regular readers!) However, as this post asks me to write about the *THING* that makes me happy, Yuvraj is out this time.

My first choice was going to be a picture of a whole variety of delicacies... yupp... FOOD! But further pondering made me realize that I was forgetting something even more basic... that ALWAYS makes me happy.

Flowers, of any type, in yellow color, are like my personal sunshine. The way sunflowers look up at the sun every morning and smile, the same way, every time I look at yellow flowers, I smile. I suppose I share the same kind of chemistry with yellow flowers as sunflowers share with the sun.

Long time ago, I wrote a post here about 4 Yellow Flowers that a couple of "street urchins" "gifted" me once.

And then, not so long ago, I also wrote about a bunch of artificial yellow flowers in my home, and my attempted "Creativity" (more like an act of lunacy, you might say!) with them.

When I used to work for Dell, all my team-mates there knew this. I still remember that one special birthday I celebrated with them, when I got soooooo many yellow flowers from everyone! [grins] See! Even thinking about them makes me happy!

I suppose I'm totally in love with yellow flowers... ! :D

30 Days of Me: The Blog Name...

Day 20 of "30 Days of Me"
The meaning behind your blog name.

The ways of the Universe are strange and mysterious. So are mine. And "miss_teerious" has been my online identity since the year 2000, when I first got to know about the internet and emails.

My first email ID: Paid 20 bucks at a cybercafe in Patna, just to get this *free* email account on! Wish somebody had told me that I just needed to open the site and fill up an online form!

Anyways, soon became paid. So I moved to other free options -- yahoo, rediff and hotmail -- always as "miss_teerious". Eventually, I entered into the corporate world, where such *creative* IDs were en passé. So the new email IDs took the boring shape of some combination of first name and last name.

And then this blog happened... my *personal* space on the web... having no connection at all with my professional life. So it was only befitting that "miss_teerious" returned online.

Day 19 of "30 Days of Me"
Another picture of yourself.

So the *ME* I wanted to share in this post could not be confined within a single pic. Therefore, you're in for a bonus again!

Pic 1

Pic 2

Pic 3

The above are a part of the "Dhongi Kaddu Maata" series. Borrowed cloak... borrowed jap-malas... and a herculean effort to keep a straight-face.

The story behind these pics... TOO HILARIOUS! But it's getting late, and I'm a bit sleepy... after 3 consecutive late nights and a day full of exhaustive shopping in the markets of Delhi! So enjoy looking at the pics... and keep guessing why they happened... ;-)

Good night!

Day 18 of "30 Days of Me"
Something you crave a lot.

FOOD... all possible varieties of it! That's what I crave for the most... the variety!

But right now... at this very moment... what I'm craving for is this...

Yesssss! I scream, you scream, we all scream, for ICECREAM!

I could eat ALL the scoops in the pic above (including the ones cropped off the photo!) right now... if only the scene of the pic could materialize in real before me! Oh and there's nothing in blue there, or even purple. Would add those flavors too... :P

Sorry Garima! I know I finally DID write a *good* post on Edward here, but *the throne* still goes to Jacob! :p :p :p (Sorry sister too!)

Here's the sexy dude showing off his body (for which he had to work very hard actually, or the role would have been recast to some other actor in the second movie of the series)...

And here's a collage wallpaper of Taylor Lautner.

I guess it's going to take a long LONG time for me to get over this particular *crush* !!! [drools]

Day 15 of "30 Days of Me"
Something you don’t leave the house without.

In today's times, what do YOU think it could be?

Obviously, the cell phone, right! The "Siamese Twin" that each one of us has these days! Although, earlier I used to refer to it as the "leash" here. Actually, I think I still prefer the same old name!

But regardless of what you choose to call it, the truth remains that each one of us is stuck to our particular "Siamese Twin" for life! I once tried to force a separation, but it didn't work out. We were back together in less than a month!

Here's the story of how I went "from dog to human"...

... and here's how I was put "on 'the leash' again"!

30 Days of Me: The TV Show...

Day 14 of "30 Days of Me"
A TV show you’re currently addicted to.

LOL! I'm definitely NOT *addicted* to anything on the idiot-box! But the two shows that I usually follow are Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Dance India Dance... both the senior and junior versions of these shows.

Currently, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs is going on, but strangely, this time it doesn't impress me much. The set is not of the usual Zee TV standard, neither are the singers. And the judges are also just too non-dynamic. Overall, a very boring and non-charismatic presentation.

Today's topic specifically mentions "currently". So, in keeping with the "Honest Scrap" Award that I received long time back on this blog, I'll just have to end this post here, as there is not a single TV show being aired these days that I even follow regularly, forget about being addicted to!

30 Days of Me: The Musician...

Day 13 of "30 Days of Me"
Your favorite musician and why?

Of course, it's none other than the legend Rahul Dev Burman... "Pancham Da"!

An artist far ahead of his times... we're still remixing his old songs even after decades!

And the variety in his music... UNBELIEVABLE!

- The sexy cabaret Piya Tu Ab To Aa Ja from Caravan

- The romantic Chura Liya from Yaadon Ki Baraat (with that unforgettable glass-against-spoon beginning!)

- The hippie Dam Maro Dam from Hare Ram Hare Krishna (has there ever been another hippie song in Bollywood?)

- The poignant Tujhse Naraz Nahin Zindagi from Masoom (even the Lakdi Ki Kathi from this film seems to have permanently bagged the first place in the list of children songs from Bollywood!)

- The female seductive Baahon Mein Chale Aao from Anamika

- And the equally seductive male rendition Dilbar Mere from Satte Pe Satta (just listening to this song makes a woman go weak at her knees!)

- The heart-tugging Yaad Aa Rahi Hai from Love Story

- The totally whacky Duniya Mein Logon Ko from Apna Desh (SUPER-loaded with energy!)

- The national lullaby Lalla Lalla Lori from Mukti

- The classical Raina Beeti Jaaye from Amar Prem

- The melancholic Tere Bina Zindagi Se from Aandhi

- The youthful loaded-with-attitude Mamaiya Kairo Mama from Arjun

- The groovy Jahan Teri Ye Nazar Hai from Kaalia

- The awesome qawwali Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin from Hum Kisi Se Kam Nahin

- And last, but soooo NOT the least, Mehbooba Mehbooba from Sholay! No adjectives for this one! So why don't you just go ahead and watch it...

These are just 15 of the most popular songs of the maestro -- all in different varieties -- but Pancham Da gave the music for 331 movies, including some in Bangla, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Oriya. And I'm sure we all have a whole lot of other personal favorites among his awesome compositions. So please feel free to add to the list in your comments below.

. . .

Here's more in Music and in Videos!

30 Days of Me: The Town...

Day 12 of "30 Days of Me"
A photograph of the town you live in.

Patna, originally known as Patliputra, was the capital of ancient India for many centuries, and witnessed immense prosperity under the reign of rulers like Chandragupta Maurya, Ashoka, Samudragupta and Vikramaditya. In Lord Buddha's times, it was just a village known as Pataligrama. Later, Sher Shah Suri gave it the modern name of Patna. You can see the front view of Patna Railway Station below, along with the huge and very famous Hanuman-Mandir.

Patna Junction & Hanuman Mandir
This town has been a seat of religious learning from times immemorial, and has attracted many foreign travelers, including Fa Hien from China, who visited India sometime between 399 to 414 CE. Another Chinese pilgrim, Hsüan-tsang, visited Nalanda, one of the world's most famous ancient universities, a couple of centuries later, and left a vivid account of his observations here, though at the time of his visit, the city was mostly in ruins.

Guru Gobind Birth Place, Patna
Patna is a popular Buddhist center in our country, and attracts a lot of Buddhist scholars even today. It is also one of the sacred pilgrimage spots of the Sikhs, as their tenth and last guru, Guru Gobind Singh, was born here on 22nd December, 1666. This relatively small town, with very little global presence today, also gave independent India its first President, Shri Rajendra Prasad.

Patna Museum
Patna not only boasts of a rich intellectual, archaeological and historical heritage, but has also gained fame as one of the world's most notorious cities in more recent times. Until a few years ago, kidnappings and murders were as common here as rains in London. But all that has changed drastically since the Nitish rule. In the last few years, Patna has seen such fast-paced development that it has been ranked as the 21st fastest growing city in the world and 5th fastest growing city in India by City Mayors Foundation.
