Surprise Visitor

I had a "surprise visitor" today at my house - actually TWO surprise visitors, but, one of them was just my nephew, UV, dropping in unexpectedly for a few short minutes. This post, however, is not about UV's visit, it's about the other "surprise visitor".

The picture above was taken from my balcony sometime last month I think. It's the roof of the house across the street. A couple of monkeys frequent that place very often. In fact, you can see one or both of them, basking under the sun, almost every other day.

I often stand at the doorway of my balcony and watch them scratching themselves and stretching in the sun. They have also seen me watching them like this. Well, at least one of them has definitely noticed me, but they look so similar from the distance, it's hard to know for sure. I took this picture on one such occasion.

So anyways, I was working on my computer earlier today. The door to the balcony is behind me, slightly to the left. And yes, as you can probably guess, it was open, while I was working. Suddenly, the intercom in our flat started ringing... my dad answered it. It was the guard calling to let us know that a monkey had been spotted entering our balcony!

Guess what! This Hanumanji's descendant was sitting at the exact same spot in the doorway of my balcony from where I usually watch him! Not a sound did he make! He was just sitting there very quietly, and watching me as I worked on the computer!

After talking to the guard on the intercom, dad quickly entered my room, trying to shoo him away. He gave one disinterested look towards my dad, and then resumed watching me and my PC! Of course, eventually, when Dad went closer to him, he did go away! But I was pretty surprised by this visit! I mean who wouldn't be, right? "You keep watching me do my stuff, so I came to watch you do your stuff too!" Haahh!

This is my tenth post for NaBloPoMo November 2010.

Is it too much of a coincidence that monkey and UV came around the same time?
And yes, Monkeys are half humans and their senses work almost like ours.
You should be happy having been blessed by Hunamnji himself.

Ha ha ha! Mr. Chowla, maybe the Gods were pleased by my Diwali puja this year! UV is exactly like 'Bal-Krishna'. And when I say 'exactly'... I mean 'EXACTLY'! And then Mr. Hanumanji! Blessed by 2 Gods on the same day! :D

Hmmm. First time the poor fellow visit you... and you shoo him away without offering anything. Wherez your sense of 'athithi devo bhava'... ?? ;)

@ Roshmi: The poor fellow knows exactly where the kitchen is in all the front-facing flats of my building, and he also recognizes which window would lead him into the kitchen. His tribe don't really think of themselves as 'atithis' here, u know. It's more like "we own this place"! And they show this proprietorship attitude every now & then! :D

Oh! Then you folks are the 'atithis'. Must say the poor fellow and his tribe have a great sense of 'atithi devo bhava' ;)

Ha ha ha! Rightly said Roshmi! :D
